Style tweaks tonight

You may have noticed some minor style tweaks to the way rCache looks. I like it so far.

Comments are welcome.

A friend of mine was telling me rCache was too "utilitarian looking". Anyway, one step at a time.

There are a couple of strange CSS/HTML bugs on www.rcache.com and once you are logged in, nothing that affects functionality, just some padding weirdness. I'll figure it out before too long.

New Features, bug fixes

I have been coding all day today. I have implemented RSS feeds for any Tag-based filter and Recent Entries. I will be adding RSS buttons all over the place where it seems appropriate. Please post here if you have a specific request for RSS feeds.

I have made a few changes to the Detail Screen concerning the buttons and tag bar. The entry text area and the Images have been lengthened. Some navigation enhancements are also new.

The rCache Collector Firefox extension was also updated. Login and update it by clicking on the Firefox Extension link.

Let me know if you like the changes.

RSS

Just a quick note to users.

RSS is coming soon. I plan on adding feeds for:
  • Recent Entries
  • Top 20 Tags
  • Tag Feeds
  • Collaborator's Tags and Search Keywords
If you think of any other RSS feeds that you would like, let me know.

Accounts!

I must say it is exciting to see the account requests coming through every day. Thank you to all of the users who are using rCache. Please do not hesitate to make suggestions or send in feedback by emailing admin AT rcache.com.

I am seeing a lot of users from non-English speaking countries sign up. Internationalization is high on the list of enhancements for rCache. I will be posting a list of features I want to implement, but I really need the feedback of users to help me decide.

Thanks again to all of the new users.

Introducing rCache.com

rCache is officially launched. I have been working on this tool for about 15 months, on and off. I use it every day now, and think it will benefit other researchers.

The basic premise is this:

The old way:

You find a great nugget of information online, so you bookmark it.

You try to come back to it 3 days or 3 months or 3 years later, and that page is gone, not even accessible in the cache of popular search engines. Too bad. So sad.

The new way:

You find a great nugget of information online, so you rCache it.

You look for it in your rCache database via keyword search or via a tag, presto, you have access to that great nugget of information.

rCache allows you to invite colleagues to search and filter your research as well.

The best thing about rCache is the simplicity of use. You install the rCache Collector Firefox extension, which makes data collection fast and easy.
