rCache Collector update!

I am please to announce an update to the rCache Collector extension. It is not finished by any means, but it is available to download and try out. I would love to get some feedback on the new features.

New features:

The extension is not used from a new window, it pops up from the bottom toolbar, which is nice as it's focus will not get lost.

The HTML source is also saved and viewable in the extension and on rCache.com.

The recent entries are listed in the extension as well, so you do not have to go to rCache.com to see your recent entries list.

I also have create a tab for "Colleagues", but am not sure what is going to happen with it. I was thinking about creating a messaging tool to notify colleagues of new rCache entries, a'la a "reading list".

I'm still working on viewing the details in the extension, and I really consider this an "Alpha". Please try it out if you get a chance, and do not hesitate to email me with questions or bugs: admin at rcache dot com

Unicode

I flipped the 'unicode' switch on rCache the other night. This means that text encoded in any UTF-8 encoding can be rCached, finally!

The UI is still completely English. One thing at a time I guess.

I have tested it with Russian, Chinese, Greek and Hindi.

It really should not have taken so long to get this feature implemented. I am completely side-tracked on a new project that I hope to announce soon.

Best Regards,

DNS update

I can now connect to https://collect.rcache.com/ on the new server. http://www.rcache.com is not working for me yet.

rCache update

I have managed to move rCache to a new server that I was planning anyway. It should just take DNS to re-propagate in order for everything to be back to normal.

Fingers crossed.

rCache is down. Sorry.

My ISP has to move a bunch of servers around in the data center, so unfortumatley, until I can get a response from them and re-create my dns and SSL certs, rCache will be down.

I wish this could have been a smoother transition.

I will get it back up and running asap.

Slow, too slow.

Just wanted to post a couple items:

1. I am working on rCache, just at a slower rate due to my regular work taking up a lot of energy right now.

2. The new design and features are very cool. I will post some screenshots once the css is in a better state.

3. I cannot wait to push it out the door. Really.

Screenshots of new UI and functionality

New detail screen, shows the keyword extraction and 'related documents' button.
Related Documents are fetched inline while you are still reading the current entry.

Unicode Examples: Chinese and Japanese:

rCache is now fully unicode. I know a lot of potential users have been turned off by the old database that could not handle anything but latin-1.

More to come, including workflow video captures.

Done Coding, Started Testing The Deployment

So I am done with the design updates and features - for now. I have started to test the deployment to the new server. I will also need to test the Firefox extension. As soon as I am done testing I will push this out to the server and update the DNS. Of course, the minor bug and formatting problems that keep popping up are making this process longer than I thought.

I originally planned some simple UI changes, and I ended up re-working all of the search and indexing tools. The changelog will be very interesting.

Fingers crossed I push it out early this week.
